So if it's just to run a NAS, I can't see spending money on new faster RAM helping that much.32 Gb DDR3 1333Mhz or 32 Gb DDR3 3200Mhz for old pc running truenas running an AMD A10-6700 AGU with 2x8Gb 3200Mhz looking to upgrade to 2x16GB of ram

If it was ECC RAM, yes. That makes a difference to data storage.

FreeNAS without ECC RAM
Hello, I know that FreeNAS uses ZFS and ZFS requires ECC RAM, because of checksums and file validating.
