I can't quite get my head around new CPU speeds and am struggling to understand that newer cpu's that are lower speeds than my current one are better.

I currently have a celeron D 2.8ghz in my desktop and i've been looking at building a HTPC. Which i have come to the conclusion will be a E2140/60/80 kinda set up.

I can't really get my head around the fact that a 1.6 E2140 will perform better than my 2.8 celeron D - is that correct?

I'm also now thinking that maybe the 2.8 celeron should be relegated to the HTPC and the set up i'm thinking about for the HTPC should become my new desktop

Go easy on me i'm a learner!! :)

So which of todays CPUs would be equivalent to or the closest match to my current cpu, or are they all superior?
