Exploding Tin of tomato's

I just took a tin of Napolina Chopped tomatoes from the cupboard and noticed that both ends had bowed outwards. The ring pull broke off so I pushed a knife into its lid. As soon as I broke the seal the lid exploded off sending tomatoes everywhere in my kitchen! The lid flew across the kitchen and could have caused a serious injury! What an earth could have caused this?

Sounds like they where contaminated and spoiled so bacteria/fungs grew inside producing a build-up of gas and pressure

High presure maybe?

Chances are either there was a fault when it was canned or maybe the tomatoes are off and produced a lot of excess gas.

Why did you open it when the can was clearly been deformed

I kinda knew it was a build up of gas but if i had known the extent of the explosion before i opened it i would have still opened it, just with an added video camera pointed at it

Unfortunately i cannot complain to the company as the number on the base of the tin has worn off for some reason

Ah well had peas with my mixed grill instead.

Thats not the story!

The woman believed she had been shot in the back of the head in her car and was holding her brains in with her fingers. When security of the car park asked if she was ok due to being sat in the car in the same spot for hours, she told them her brain was hanging out as she'd been shot but it turned out a cookie dough can had heated up in the back seat, exploded and the dough had gone over the back of her head.

She believed the dough was her brains. Dosey cow.
