From what I remember botulism food poisoning can cause this. If you eat the contents you will die unless you get the antidote in time.

Also, why the hell would you have tinned tomatos with a mixed grill, tinned tomatos are an ingredient, not a side dish? Can you seriously eat tinned tomatos on their own?
