Explorer crashes/restarts when opening video files with vlc.

so this seemingly has started at random, leading a a metric ****ton of errors with windows.storage.dll.

tried sfc/scannow, tried dism, both claim to have fixed whatever is wrong but after a restart bugger all has changed.

any ideas?

Does it do the same with mpc-be?

after a little more fiddling, it seems any interaction with that folder causes explorer to restart.

i've ran a chkdsk which came back fine.

^ funnily enough the files opened fine with wmp

e: this is even causing it to happen when opening items in control panel now...

e2: and it sometimes causes folders to open in new windows. weird **** lol

I can't offer any advice but I'm having similar issues.

Plugging a usb drive in causes a spinning wheel and explorer stops responding, after a few minutes it'll crash and restart.

I saw on Google it was an issue in old builds but this is just annoying...

found a guide whilst trying to find a solution to this which showed how to refresh the windows install without losing installed programs/files, but can't find it again... anyone know the process or has a link?

So after deleting my user account and creating a new one, i solved the issue. then, after reinstalling google drive, it started again! removed it and it went away again. I used shellexview to disable all non-microsoft explorer hooks but it didn't stop it wigging out, seems drive has to be totally removed to stop it being a massive pleb.
