Explorer.exe continuously restarting

I have a problem where explorer.exe restarts whenever i go to my computer, or control panel, basically anything that brings up an explorer window will make it restart

What can i try to resolve this?

I had a similar problem where it sometimes crashed completely. I solved it by disabling "Open each folder in separate process" in Folder Options. Hope it helps.

I can't open control panel though as that just restarts explorer.exe!

You can open the system applet separately through the command prompt... can't remember the name of the executable, maybe someone who does will drop in on this and answer? In any case though, Folder Options isn't in the control panel, it's under Tools on any explorer window.
