As per title really - I find finder a bit cumbersome and I'm used to how explorer shows files.

I vaguely remember someone asking a similar question before but I cant find anything

Not exactly sure what you're aiming to achieve but can't you get by with using spotlight to find programs/documents so you don't need to use the finder?

Alternatively, why don't you customise the viewing options (Apple+J), to show file information, extensions, etc etc ???

Alternative to the alternative; download quicksilver here to open programs with a few keystrokes :)

Finder is limited, but ain't that part of the fun when using a different operating system; learning how to do tasks in that operating system?

If we stick what we know and comfortable with, we never learn anything new.

Tried Path Finder and I find it better than Finder for file management - that holding spot on the left is niffy tool as well.

..you can drag and drop files to the surrounding parts of Finder which essentially is the same as a holding area ;)
