I have an old laptop with emails in both Lotus Notes and Outlook 2003 which I need to recover. They are each a seperate problem for me.

Outlook was attached to an exchange server which no longer exists, export does not work work unless I re-attach first. I am guessing I can find the pst store used offline and transfer this to the new laptop before importing from it, would that work?

Lotus notes contains the bulk of the emails I need to transfer to Outlook. I have searched the net in vain for a conversion utility that is actually free without success. I have tried the export function in notes but it doesnt seem to work very weel and does not appear to retain the attachments to emails.
Can someone suggest a solution to this?

The notes problem is the most vexing for me, I have no knowledge of notes at all and would appreciate any help you can offer.

Exchange First.

In outlook, unles you are using express, you do not get pst files unless you specifically export them, all off line data is in an .ost file, which is linked to the exchange account. There is undoubtablly paid for utils to etract them, but i have not seen a free one.

Lotus Notes.

What version of lotus notes is the database in ?? Do you have the ID file for the database ?? again there are tools for the convert, but not free ones.

I am using notes 6.5, I also have the client installed and can log in to run it in island mode to view the emails.

I was not expecting the extraction of emails to be such a problem, I have seen lots of pay for tools for Notes but am not willing to spend the money asked for in this one off transfer :(

As it seems that exporting the data may well not be possible, is there a way (free) to make my install into an image I can run as a virtual machine on my laptop after a reinstall?

It is currently installed as XP but is badly in need of a reinstall, I would prefer to go to Windows 7.
