I've got my girlfriends 1st gen iPhone here and I'm about to install the latest firmware on it.

Is there any way to export the contacts to Outlook before i do. would a sync delete them from the phone or add them to outlook? There are no contacts in Outlook at the moment.

Contacts are not backed up anywhere, the only copy of them is on the phone and I'm in a lot of trouble if i delete them. :D

I normally backup my contacts into outlook via iTunes, you just need to hit the check box to enable it and then select which application you wish to back them up to.

I know on mine they back up to Windows Contacts or something like that? Don't know if from that you can export to Outlook, but I bet theres a way?

You can get iTunes to sync with windows address book and when you ugrade your iPhone or what ever all you have to do is sync the iPhone to windows address book

Thanks for the replies.

I ticked the box to sync contacts and it put them in Outlook. I've exported them to a CSV file and backed them up as well.

I was scared it would make the phone the same as Outlook ie: no contacts in it. Life would not have been easy if i deleted all her contacts :D
