Extended Storage PS5

Hi all,

Does anyone use an extended storage for ps5 and can recommend a good one to use?

I had an old Seagate one for my PS4 but at one point it crashed and died and I lost loads of days and unsure if I just had a bad one or that isn't a good brand.

Any help would be appreciated?

I use a 4Tb WD My Passport drive and have not had any issues with it at all. I have heard the WD Black P10 drives are good as well. I am pretty sure I saw a 5Tb on offer somewhere recently.

I just used an old Seagate removable drive I had lying around and it worked fine. Loading speeds seemed the same as my ps4 pro so I wouldn't be inclined to splash out on an expensive drive or SSD for expanded storage.

Ended up removing it though as the PSVR needs two rear usb ports and I would have had to disconnect the drive every time I wanted to use the VR.

When i get mine all setup with the PSVR i will be buying one of the hubs for the camera, PSVR and Headphones and then use the other port for external storage.. I cant be doing with things sticking out the front of the console.

I'm using an old 500GB SSD on a sabrent USB 3.1 SATA adapter, no issues at all.

I got a 4TB Seagate one and after formatting and system recognising it, I have ticked the box to install to extended storage but it still always tries to install to console storage and doesn't working :rolleyes:

Is that for PS5 games or PS4 games on the PS5... am sure I read somewhere that you could only put PS4 games on the external storage?

It may well be that, but then it isn't letting me move over older games over that have had updates (Fortnite for my son as an example)

I can manage for now but will end up having to replace it at some point.

Fortnite has a PS5 version so that'll be why.

I'm doing the same, using an old Vertex 4 SSD with a Sabrent USB 3.1 SATA adapter and working well. Really helped to free up some valuable space on the internal drive.

I used this one on the PS4, when I got my PS5 literally plugged it in and and it worked from the get go, didn`t have to redownload anything.

No problems and like others have said at the mo you can only store PS4 games externally. So it`s senseless spending any big amount until they make external SSD`s compatible.

Alternatively if you think you can hold off for another few months and then just buy an SSD when they become compatible.
