Extending Cat6

Hi Guys,

Wondering if you have any ideas on the best way to do this. At one of our premises at work we have a wall mounted 450mm deep rack. The problem is this is becoming overcrowded and we currently have a rack server sitting on the side because it doesn't fit (lol)

We propose getting a floor standed rack, 800mm deep to house everything but all the CAT6 in the current rack isn't long enough to be able to reach the standing rack as it's coming from the ceiling.

So my question is what would you guys to do extend the CAT6, without re-wiring up the whole premises?!?

The two ways I can see it going is still having a small rack on the wall with a patch panel or getting a huge amount of couplers?

Thoughts? Neither are particularly ideal but I guess we have to do one of them, which is best practice in your opinion?

Ta,
Rob

Two options.

1, Get a tall cabinet and mount the patch panel at the top.
2, Put the existing panel into the ceiling and run a link panel down to the cabinet.

I would install a smaller rack containing just the patch panels and switches as a networking cabinet only. Then put some trunking down to the equipment cab below.

I would post a picture up of the current setup but quite frankly it's embarassing and it wasn't me who fitted it. There is two 48port patch panels present. Along with the fibre line, switches etc in said cabinet.

Thanks for your advice with this guys, i've sourced some suitable trunking and have my action plan. Will get up some before and after pics so you can see how much of a mess it was!
