Extending WIFI Network

Hi guys,

I have just come down to my Mum's house down in the West Country. She lives in what is essentially two very old stone cottages that were knocked together. She already has a wireless network up and running and the router sits basically on the second floor at the end of the house.

The kitchen is the opposite side of the house and is where they normally would like to do most of their surfing, as the AGA is there making it the warmest place.

She mentioned the internet being poor when I was last here a year or so ago and I suggested moving the router downstairs, as there was a phone line connection in the kitchen. I did this, but the wireless didn't work. After I left they got a BT guy out, but he basically said it wasn't possible so they continued as things were.

Now though they have had some security cameras fitted to the outside of the house, which are connected the wireless network. For some reason they now get no wireless signal in the kitchen.

One of the staff in Maplins recommended these wifi discs, which bounce the signal around, but they're coming in at £199. This seems a little excessive to me just to extend the signal by a few metres, albeit through a very solid wall.

Just wondering if you guys had any suggestions that would work whilst being less expensive? Thanks in advance from me and the mother, and let me know if you guys need any additional info.

Appreciate that was a long story for a fairly simple problem, so TL:DR - how can my mum get wifi in the kitchen.

Thanks guys. Yeah I have no idea why they got the cameras in the first place as they live in the middle of nowhere with no one for miles...

Special thanks to BigT for the numerous options. I reckon they could run a network cable easily enough, but they'll most likely opt for the wireless repeater.

After some lengthy discussions and several explanations, I reckon we can get a cable down in to the kitchen through the ceiling so should be relatively mess free.

Any suggestions for a wireless access point jobby? Looking to order from OC and keep things relatively cheap.
