I have a friend who has converted his garage into an office and their getting issues with the signal from the Speedtouch 585 router thats in the house 40ft away. Their driveway seperates the house from the garage. Typically they get 1 to 2 bars on Vista with 3 laptops sharing the connection.

I've already tried Devolos Wireless extender kit which wouldn't see the original network because it wasn't on the same part of the power grid according to the informer program.

So I've got another 585 and had a go yesterday.

Original 585 is all setup, so I powered up the other 585 configured the same channel, WEP key and searched on the original 585 for the other as a wireless access point. It sees it and adds it to the list. Moved the 585 into the garage, power it up and the laptops can see the access point. Configured 2nd 585 to see the original as an access point.

That's all they would see and intermittantly I can get a web page but not all the time. Think I've done something wrong.

Other info is that the DSL connection is AOL 512k. I'm assuming this is also going to give a problem with 3 laptops sharing the connection.

Anyone had experience of setting this up please ?

i think you'd have better results with an improved wireless router, rather than an extender

try one with MIMO? or the draft n ones look to be higher powered

Possibly but which one - they aren't all they are cracked up to be in the real world.

With the access point installed each laptop gets 5 bars. Just the issue displaying pages intermittantly. Which is a setup issue I guess.
