i have my telephone line downstairs and i want my networking equipment to be upstairs as there is much more room. i want to extend the telephone upstairs ive looked at normal telephone extension but seems it will reduce the line quality if i install the flimsy wiring. ive also looked at high quality rj11 cabling but seems its not long enough to wire to the desired room i want to put it in

any thoughts

yes i was thinking about that too. but i would need a guide/tutorial to follow on how to crimp the wiring etc.

i was thinking about them powerlines. i can keep the modem and wireless access point downstairs..

i would prefer the modem to be near the master socket though

Can I recommend a networking over powerline solution? I have a netgear HDXB101 solution and it's great. No wires running around the skirting board.

Mine is....

DOWNSTAIRS

Router (inc Wireless) - > HDXB101 -> Plug (network to upstairs)
-> Wireless Laptops

UPSTAIRS
Plug -> HDXB101 -> Linksys Hub -> PC
-> PS3
-> 2* Laptop Wired.

You can also use >1 HDX101 units. Up to 16 I believe.

They aren't the cheapest, HOWEVER, the price is comparable if you do intend on making your implementation tidy (trunking, new plastering... etc).It's far quicker and easier, I can tell you that much.
