External apache access gone

I'm new to linux so excuse my ignorance for a mo.

I've setup a LAMP server using one of the virtual appliances, its running ubuntu with sql/apache/samba etc... everything was going fine until I've literally just checked it and I cant get access to it outside my network, via IP or hostname.

[redacted] is the hostname. Hostname/ip address works fine internally (have loopback setup for [redacted]) and the firewall rules are fine, so I'm not entirely sure what I have done :(

I havent changed anything between yesterday and today though, bloody thing :@
 
I found the problem, no default gateway has been set.

Now this keeps happening, everytime I reboot the machine it's losing its default gateway, how do I go about setting it permanently?

I'm assuming the \n is the reason, I could have sworn that I modified this file to remove it, whats going on?

Well now it's completely broken, upgraded vmware tools last night and its completely removed the network card.

lspci shows:

00:11.0 Ethernet Controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] 79c790 [PCnet32 LANCE] (rev 10)

But ifconfig only shows the loopback and ifup eth0 returns an error stating there is no eth0.

What's happened?
 
Sorry I am still new to linux, I run Lspci and it shows the AMD network card there.

/etc/network/interfaces has all of the appropriate eth0 lines in it.

If I do ifup eth0 I get:

eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device
SIOCSIFADDR: no such device
 
It doesnt even notice when I give it another vm network adapter, I really need to get this sorted :(

Does anyone have msn, I need to get this sorted asap :(

Ok this is still causing a problem, I'm in the office today and cant access my site so I'm guessing its lost the default gateway again.

Why does it keep losing it!? Where would I start looking to find the solution?
 
How would I go about removing the manager?

Nevermind, found out how but Its apparently not installed when I run "sudo apt-get remove network-manager"
