Morning all, i have got a new MacBook Pro and i'm currently getting vista how i like it.

I've hit my first major hurdle in using my second monitor.
My gfx card is 8600m gt, im using a DVI-I Cable ti connect my MBP to my Dell 2001FP. I am currently running the laptopvideo2go 160.03 drivers with the modded .inf.

Basically my problem is resolution selection on the 2nd monitor, i can only select up to 1024x768, when the monitors resolution is 1600x1200. Also, the monitor is detected as Generic PnP monitor, not Dell 2001FP.

So firstly, is there anyway i can force a resolution on to my external display?
Why is the EDID not being read? Anyway i can manually update this information or actually check the reading of it?

Any ideas?

Cheers for any help guys, Chris.

Settings > Advanced > Monitor > Display Resolutions not supported by this monitor

that should display all the resolutions the graphics card supports then

Only does it for frequencies.

I have now installed Dell 2001FP drivers, and it even says maximum resolution of 1600x1200. However, the option for is not there, only up to 1024x768.

The secondary monitor works absolutely fine in OSX, being detected straight away as a 2001FP and 1600x1200 set automatically.

Absolute PITA!

Under XP when you untick and apply the "hide modes this monitor can't do" box , you then have to switch to the adapter tab where theres another button that says "list all modes" and i think you should be able to change it there - but as i say this is on XP.

I've had this problem in the past with a couple of radeon cards and there was never a fix i could find or that ATI put in the drivers - it meant I had to manually had to override the incorrect EDID or DDC data every month when new drivers came out.

Nope absolutely zilch is working.

Ive tried powerstrip and ReForce to apply custom resolutions, and its made no difference. Powerstrip detects the monitor and says 1600x1200 is its max, but the slider only goes to 1024x768.

I added the resolutions in myself in the registry, same problem. I've tried 4 different drivers. This is such a royal PITA as its so far defeated the point of me spending the extra on a laptop with DVI output!
Its doubly annoying as it works find in mac os x no problems, but mac osx is just not got enough features for me to be able to use every day!

RAAAARGH!!
