I need to encrypt an external drive but need it to be able to work with both Mac and PC. I know both have their own encryption options, but I need a solution that allows the same data to be accessed securely on both.

I have tried searching and got mixed results, so I thought I would ask for help here.

Thanks.

TrueCrypt was found to be insecure and so I don't think the current version can encrypt anymore? Only decrypts.

Latest version (7.2) was only to aid people migrating and can no longer encrypt. I have tried 7.1a on my up to date mac and it gives an error saying requires OSX 10.4 or later.

At this point I would settle for just a basic password, it seems samsungs software is windows only. Unlike the kingston pendrive I have.

TBH when needing encrypted external hard drives to work across different operating systems I find the best and only really guaranteed method is to look at hardware encryption.
What this means is you cant use your existing hard drive but would need to buy a new one.
Something like this
http://datalocker.com/products/encrypted-storage/datalocker-dl3/
(but maybe something similar/cheaper)
As its all on on the inbuilt touchscreen there is no drivers/software. Windows/osx just see's it as an external hard drive once you have entered your password.

I have also used ironkey encrypted hard drives
http://www.ironkey.com/en-US/encrypted-storage-drives/h100.html
These work well.
Key difference is this is software encryption but, I havent had any problems using them on windows or mac's

Not the answer I think you were looking for though so sorry if this doesnt really help.
