Hi all i just bought a samsung f3 1tb drive to use with a icy box IB-362StUS2-B

I have a 1tb smasung f3 drive in my pc with 2 partitions i want to make a 100% duplicate of my pc drive with the external drive.

Q1 can you make partitions with windows 7 on an external drive ?
Q2 can you make the drive bootable ? like your c drive in teh computer
Q3 cam i boot from a usb2 or esata connection ?
Q3 can i plug the external in the pc with a bottable external with windows on it without it conflicting with the internal drive ?

thanks for any help

Hi, not quite sure what you're trying to achieve here, but:

A1: Yes, using disk manger (gui),diskpart (command shell) or numerous other partition tools

A2: Yes, if the partition is active and the os is properly installed. Windows expects to load from the location that it was installed from however, so a straight disk clone using ghost etc. wouldn't boot from the external drive as you'd expect without some messing around. You can also get duplicate SIDs which could cause some grief.

A3: Yes, providing your bios gives you the option

A4: If it's a completely separate windows installation then yes. If it's a straight clone of the existing internal drive then no (as A2).

If you're just after a full backup then I'm afraid I don't see why you'd want the backup disk to be bootable externally.
