She's given me the okay. She is amazing. I love her to bits (yes she'll see this topic).

Not sure if this is best here or I'm home and garden.

I have a drill I hired for doing the tumble dryer vent and whilst I still have it makes sense too use it :)

Need to lay 4 ethernet cables to my garage from the routers location. Tried wifi and home plugs I want a gig LAN setup.

Homebase have offers on garden hosepipe. 50m is £20.

I have 2 boxes of cable already, I will just double this up.

I was thinking of drill a hole though the wall and using an IP rated small box with the back sealed with silocen as means of entry. Outside from the box to the ground some conduit tubing so it looks smart. The hose pipe can run up the inside of this making it all water tight.

This has kinda been done already by the builders of this new house for the power to the garage.

Inside the garage I will just have the cable run out the wall as a naked bunch to the other end where I new them.

The house I was thinking of a terminated face plate. Looks neater then as to having a run of cables coming out the wall.

Plan to pull a length of cable the route I want to go so
I can get the right amount of hose. Then pull lengths of cable so I can enough in the garage. I could terminate that into a box or just rj45 ends. Will see.

4 cables is for bandwidth and redundancy. Been caugh out before.

Anyone any ideas or am I about right?

Yeah, all my servers are out there for home, work and CCTV! Just bought a 27'' screen and some
Creative Gigaworks T20 Series II 2.0 to make some noise

Nice!! I would love to convert my garage but It's only single skin, So the damp would be crazy!! However those T20's are awesome I currently have the T40s and with a decent sound card they are pretty loud for the price :)

All we've done is paint it. Just means i can now use it for stuff out there. £30 gets me a 3KW heater that will do the job. could have insulated and stuff but not worth it.

I have the T40's inside and they rock

Why not run 1 plus 1 for redundancy? Then have a unmanaged gigabit switch box in the shed.

Ah... Bandwidth. What you gonna have out there?

Id run your failover link by a different hose pipe too. It's like a real datacenter!

Are you saying that the electrical supply to your garage is run inside a garden hose ???
If so then it's a prime example why builders should stick to building and let electricians deal with the electrics!!

This method is fine for Ethernet but breaks multiple regulations when dealing with mains voltage

Imagine doing some edging on a flower bed and cutting straight into that hose!

It's an armored cable for power to the garage.

I could only get 3 cables in the hose, that's enough anyway. They will be dug down 12'' so no problems with it getting hit as a path is going over the top as well.
