I just formatted my pc and have install all motherboard drivers and graphics etc but for some reason my plug and play ext hard drive won't. When i plug it in it reports that i'm plugging it into a slow usb port and should choose usb 2.0 for faster performance but for some reason none of the ports are reading as 2.0 even though they are! In device manager i see the mass storage device but in my computer theres nothing! PLEASE can someone help!

PS I installed service pack 2 as i belive this contains usb 2.0 drivers but still didn't work!

Update: Got the drive working, but i still have only usb 1 speeds! everytime i plug something in it tells me this but i don't know how to overcome the problem!

check usb2 is enabled in the bios? what you're looking for in device manager is an "enhanced" device. this will tell you usb2 is working. :)

Device manager shows no enhanced devices and i took a quick ganders in bios but couldn't really find anyhting that helped. I put the motherboard disc and it does have a usb 2.0 driver listed in the install menu but for some reason it won't install, soemthing to do with service pack 2 containing the usb 2 driver!

Does anyone think removing service pack 2 then downloading 1a and then 2 will help? On a side note i should add how would i go about removing a service pack  :D

Maybe in Control Panel->Add/remove programs? The hotfixes are in there anyway ...

Nope not in there i think because the edition of windows i installed has sp2 auto installed with it.
