hi everyone, i was wondering if anyone can help me. i have a yottamaster hard drive enclosure, and i want to try and add this to my wi-fi so i don't need to connect it to my laptop all the time. i have a virgin media router but theirs no usb. can anyone recommend anything to help me.

thank you

You could try something like this and just plug into an RJ45 port on your router - haven't tried it myself but maybe somebody else can comment on feasibility.
This won't work, the hard drive enclosure has no os/drivers to run a network adaptor or create network shares.

Get the cheapest usb 3 supporting router you can, I imagine something around ~£30, or go second hand and find something even cheaper.
Since you need no features other than one gbps port and a usb 3 port. Might be worth checking a Chinese express site for something specialised if you can't find someone selling a correctly featured router for cheap.

Remove the competitors link.

That should do the job fine, if you want any of the other features. There's a tp link ax3000 that's 54.99 if those features suit better.

TP link and Asus probably have something older (ac1xxx or ac3xxx) series) that are most likely cheaper but should also have usb 3 on them.

Whether it's worth spending a reasonable amount and going new all depends on if any of the other features can be made use of, newer wifi, access point /wifi extender etc compared to just the virgin router. Second hand should be easy too, if you're not using any routing or features of the router, doesn't matter if its performance is crap as long as the usb is up to snuff.

Assuming the cpus in them are capable enough to write at usb 3 speeds, that will require benchmark checking, I'd assume most would be fine.

@Gabby You allowed to link to competitor websites, this is a store forum afterall.
I searched OC for USB to RJ45 and nothing came up so can't see any conflict. However, as my post has now been deleted it's a moot point.

Search OC for USB to RJ45 and all you get is pages of bloody USB cables. I am NOT spending MY time trawling through multiple pages of search results when OC cannot provide a decent search function. Search Amazon for the same thing and you get exactly what you searched for. Suggest OC get their search function in order!
