Hi all
I upgraded my pc and had to reinstall vista ultimate.
Everything is working as it should apart from whenever i plug in my external hd or my usb stick they dont work.
With the external hd windows says device not recognised and will not get a driver for it or anything. With the usb stick windows does nothing at all.
I have tried other usb devices such as my mp3 player my 360 pad and my gf camera and windows installs the driver and they work perfectly.in control panel when my external hd is plugged in it says unknown device. Both my external hd and my usb stick worked fine before the reinstall. I have tried everything i know please help lol

Do they appear in device manager when plugged in?
Can you confirm they work on a different system?
Does other devices work in the same port that these do not (and vice versa, try different ports)

Thats the thing......my misses had my older stuff as her upgrade except she has w7......my hd and usb stick will not work in hers either now and to awnser your other questions m8 ......other devices are fine in any usb port on my and her pc and my external only appears as a unknown device in cp whereas my usb sick doesnt appear at all.

That shows the motherboard drivers are all correct, as for it not working in another pc, thats wierd for them both to go at once!
I must admit to being a bit clueless with this one. But then, I have a 300gb raptor here which was running for about 6 weeks, restarted pc, and it just is no longer recognised in the BIOS. On any PC. Yet it was working fine before the restart.

No doubt someone will come along and say adjust the preconstriculator with the supplied spanner and it will work!

I know m8 its well weird and i seriously doubt both my usb stick and external hd would go at excactly the same time.

Is it possible for a usb port to blow a device? if so how come other stuff is fine?

The only other thing i have just noticed is in the bottom right hand corner i have a safely remove hardware icon.........inside this under the devices i want to unplug/eject are my 4870x2 twice and a high definition audio controller.

I heard that Vista SP2 can put graphics cards in sfely remove hardware, not sure how to fix it though:(

When you test the stick and drive here monday, hopefully that will help see if the devices are broken and if they are a front port must have blown them. If thats possible if a port is dodgy or the case wire?

Update
found a old usb stick albeit used to be a dodgy one.
Actually worked in a usb slot but after being in there for a min or so got the decive not recognised bubble and it disapeared from my computer although that could just be the stick itself as its a old gimmick chunky thing which has gone wrong before in the past.

Ill know more monday after i try my sick and ex hdd on my bros pc.
