Hi,

Decided to get rid of my Icybox nas box as it was too slow and not very expandable, already filled up the 1TB raid drives.

And as most / all MITX cases only allow one 3.5'' disk my only option seems to be some sort of external enclosure to hold about 3 or 4 3.5'' disks.

Such a thing exist ? Prefer if it used the Pc's power I guess over SATA or something ???

Otherwise I could just get one of those Lian Li drive bay things and just put it next to the file server, just looks a bit messy !

aaaah, yes I had looked at that in the past, it looks very tasty, though very expensive knowing lian li. You can get them, seen people selling them. Was one that holds 3 on MM last week I think.

Edgestore do a few different sizes of DAS ( i assume that is what you want?) EdgeStore-DAS801T-8xBay is the big boy or maybe something like EdgeStore DAS401 4xBay?

Oh brilliant, that Lian Li is exactly what I was looking for as it happens, I have looked into the Edgestore DAS boxes but for various reasons I would rather avoid those.

That Lian Li has a lot of features and being Lian Li is probably nicely made, it looks it from the pictures at least. Assuming it's raid hardware is decent then I imagine it will be the solution to quite a few people's issues.

I would imagine that it costs somewhere in the region of £175 for something like that. I really don't know though, I just know what other DAS solutions cost, and a well made 5 disk DAS with raid hardware would cost at least that, perhaps more like £200.

Find some wood, a 120mm fan, some nails and an esata expansion card. O and you might need a saw and hammer. :D

If I got an esata card, can I just plug another 2 HDD's to it externally by getting an esata to sata cable or something ?

Or can I buy some sort of backplain which goes from esata to my hard drives ??
