external hdd - how to format to fat32 or hfs please

Can OSX 10 do this? I'm rather new to Macs so would appreciate some help.

I have an external HDD that i want to be able to read/write to through OSX and read, prob using macdrive, in XP.

Currently i'm having issues transferring files to the external hdd with an error code (50) so i want to start fresh and get the file system in place.

Disk Utility, in your Apps/Utils folder. It's pretty straight forward.

You'll find that the disk utility is a highly useful tool, not just for formatting, but for partitioning, copying, backing-up, setting up software RAID, and repairing. It is especially useful to me as it creates .iso images of just about anything. On other systems you'd need a small herd of programs to duplicate the functionality of the Disk Utility.
