I have a Western Digital 500GB My Book connected to my iMac via Firewire 800. The drive appears in My Devices and can also be accessed via the icon on the Desktop. Since I have had the drive (about 5 weeks) it has disappeared twice and I just can't get it to re-appear easily. It goes from Finder, the desktop and I can't see any reference to it anywhere, not even in Disk Utility.
Both times it has gone I have had to power the disk on and off a few times and also swap from Firewire to USB. Eventually the Mac see's it and all is ok again. The first time it happened I spoke to Mac support and they tried many things to find it, all without success.
Does anyone know how I can prevent it from going away or is there anyway I can create some sort of shortcut so when it does go I have a way of forcing it to find it?
