External HDD supplied with backup software

As far as I know XP Home Edition doesn't come with a backup tool, unlike XP Professional. So, you'd have to find some backup software (sometimes external HDDs do come with it, if that's their purpose).

that synctoy looks great for backing up data (i'm tesing it out atm, backing up my photos to my laptop) but it won't help you restore your c: drive as it won't give you a drive image that you can restore from (including the MBR and registry).
