External Mics on Canon 7D?

Im upgrading from a 40D to a 7D, and the main reason is video...

Basically wondering if people have used and if so noticed a substantial improvement of sound quality when using something like a Rode Stereo Video Mic into the mic input jack on the camera?

for £150, if the difference is very noticeable as would be expected, I reckon it worth having...

Want to use it for mainly voice, and some concert stuff...

Any ideas / opinions?

I recently started looking into this, the pro is supposed to be better than the original but is also much pricier. There are samples on Youtube etc. I was going to give the inbuilt mic a bit more use before I decide to add a mic.

The auto gain on the 7D causes some issues with an external mic, but there are ways around it.

I am also looking into an external mic for my 7D. As I hope to go to a few air shows this year and maybe a F1 GP next year. So a mic would be very handy in deed !
