Today I was told by an osteopath that my neck is stuffed mainly due to looking down at my laptop while working at my desk both at home and in the offices I work in.

So - perfect excuse to spend some $$$ on a new monitor and work at eye level.

Thing is - I've just read this on the Apple web site:

Thunderbolt digital video output
Native Mini DisplayPort output
DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (sold separately)
VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter (sold separately)
Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (sold separately)

HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840x2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096x2160 resolution at 24Hz

So I'm assuming that if I go for the DVI output I can get 2560x1600?

Just get a monitor with a DisplayPort input. Otherwise you're in the world of Dual-Link DVI which needs a fairly pricey adaptor.

If you do end up getting a monitor with DVI input remember you need the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-link DVI adapter for high resolutions like 2560x1600
