2.5" or 3.5" ? if 2.5" then Yes there are enclosures that will work from laptop only.
Sorry, not too up-to-date in laptop technology but do new ones now have an e-SATA port?
Well ... therein lies the answer: a 2.5" hdd is indeed a recommendation and I have found an enclosure that specifies power over USB and data over the ESATA cable ..(http://aphnetworks.com/reviews/icy_box_ib_266stus_b)
Just ordered a 320GB 2.5" from OC so lets hope that it all pans out ok!
