Does anyone have recommendations for a hdd enclosure or all in one unit that has esata and is powered by the laptop itself - ie, it does not need to be plugged into a 240v socket ..
External SATA enclosure or drive for laptop that does nor require a 240v power brick!

2.5" or 3.5" ? if 2.5" then Yes there are enclosures that will work from laptop only.

Well ... therein lies the answer: a 2.5" hdd is indeed a recommendation and I have found an enclosure that specifies power over USB and data over the ESATA cable ..

Sorry, not too up-to-date in laptop technology but do new ones now have an e-SATA port?
Good question, I know the M1530 doesn't as I had to buy an eSata expresscard for mine. All working OK and I get very good throughput from it
