im considering getting a laptop and i want to play my songs and watch dvds in good sound on it.

i have been offered this upgrade Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD™ Audio- Full Version for £24, is this any good or should i buy a usb sound card?

can i also use speakers from richer sounds into either of these parts?

I don't know much about laptop sound, but it sounds like a good deal. Is it surround output, is surround what you want? I would think that if that isn't suitable (someone else needs to confirm) a PCMCIA card might be better than a USB one, faster

You can use Richer sounds, or any Hi-Fi speakers with it, but you'll need either an AV amp or stereo amp for surround and stereo setups respectively, as well as a connecting cable :)

the laptop i want doesnt have a PCMCIA slot, it has an express slot what ever that is.

even tho i am going to be watching dvds i only want a decent 2.1, but im gonna get some bookshelfs from richer sounds.

Audio ports: Stereo Line-out (external speakers/headphone) and external microphone-in connector (mono)

thats the ports so what connections would i use and what would i need?

Connect the stereo line out to the amps line in/aux in/cd player in (probably using a 3.5mm stereo minijack to 2x phono lead). If you just want stereo you only need to join the bookshelf speakers to the amps outputs with ordinary speaker wire and possibly banana plugs. If you really want 2.1, the easiest way is probably with an active sub featuring high level input, I doubt you'll need a sub with decent bookshelfs though tbh :)
