External soundcard for use with Ableton Live!

Going the digital route with my DJ'ing and going to get involved with a MIDI controller so I need a proper external sound card so I can stop using the turd on board stuff on my main PC and so that I can hook up to my laptop when i'm out and about, as most midi controllers dont come with in built sound cards.

The only stipulation is that it must be suitable for me to mix with Ableton, Traktor and Virtual DJ (so some way to headphone cue tunes etc) and it must have SPDIF Out/In as my speakers on my PC use it.

I've been looking around and have come across the M-Audio Fast Track Pro for about £115-£120.

It appears to have everything I want, as well as some Midi ports and a couple of other handy extras. Does anyone have any experience of this sound card? or any of the M-Audio sound cards? Or ANY external USB soundcards for that matter lol?! Just trying to get the most info about it before I place an order!

Well from what you've asked for, it seems to fit the bill.

-MIDI I/O for controllers. (can always get a USB-MIDI converter if you need more)
-SPDIF
-4 Mono/2 Stereo unbalanced outputs (although phono, which may be an issue?)
-Balanced Main Stereo Outs.
-Hardware inserts (pre digital)
-USB 2.0 (as opposed to some 1.1 units)
-Pro Tools M-Powered compatible, as well as any other DAW. Has full OSX,XP,Vista (x86 and x64) drivers.

Can't go wrong at all. :)

I used to use a Fast Track USB prior to my Mbox 2 and it was a nice piece of kit. I used it for live drumming via V-Drums and it never let me down. Only downside to Maudio stuff is that their electronics are a bit pap. The pre-amps aren't fantastic, but as a live tool, Maudio is right up there at the top.

Well its only going to be mainly used as a good quality sound card for the laptop and for my home PC, when messing with Ableton and for music production etc.
