External usb battery

Oooo didnt know about this kind of thing. Would I be able to charge my smartphone off it? If I am texting all day at work, even with a lunchhour recharge on the mains, it doest last the journey home on battery :/

Yep, my TekNet will charge my smartphone about 4 times, or a tablet a couple of times.

Thats pretty damn awesome! Well worth £20 if you're away from a plug for a while. Also good for camping I guess. Is there a way when its plugged in to usb to monitor its charge level or does it just go by the 4 lights on top?

*Edit - the description does say the LEDs are indicators, I was just curious if there was a more accurate in-OS indicator.

Yep, 4 lights tell you. I chose the Teknet for its 2A output so it will cope fine with tablets and other such high power usb devices, a lot of external batteries are only 1a.

The rainforest description says:

improved 7000mAh advanced Li battery technology and 5V 2.1Amp total output

And the image shows each port is labelled 1A each. Do you use a usb Y cable to get the 2A?

The one I linked to on ebay has 3 outputs...2X USB Output: DC 5V~2000mA
1X Micro USB Output: 5V~1000mA

Oh ok cool. Seems the descriptions are a bit wrong then.

TeckNet iEP380-II also has 2 USB Outputs, each USB output has 5V 1A output, which can charge 2 of your Favourite Devices at the same time.

I've had one of the Teknet 11000mah ones for a few months now. Don't use it that often, but it's always been great when I have.

Will charge my SII serveral times over, and pretty rapidly if I stop using it at the same time.

Used it mainly at the UK Barista Championship, where I spent most of the day tweeting and taking photo's. Used a kindle micro usb cable as it was longer so I could keep using the phone.

Only downside - only 1 usb port.

I have the Teknet one also, It came in handy last night too as we lost power for over 2 hours and I was bored and phone battery was on its last legs. I charges very quickly in all honesty (iPhone 4s) and Im really quite pleased with it.

It does also charge my latest generation iPad, but very very slowly.

Worth a score of anyones money, I got mine from the rainforest.

I'm hoping to use one in conjunction with DSLR Controller with my canon 550d and hp touchpad. Not for anything really useful, just because I can :D
