I bought a Samsung 500Gb disk and put it in an IcyBox enclosure today.

I can see 'USB disk' in the Device Manager but nothing in Windows Explorer/Computer Management.

Am I being really blonde or have I missed something here?

Using XP Pro btw.

Make sure you select the right disk, format and use

:D

should see you right.

reason being im guessing its a brand new disk, therefore it has no file system on it,

Btw use ntfs.

Until about 10 minutes ago it wasn't showing up in the Disk Management. ;)

I opened the box up this morning and found that the tight packing of the cable from the disk to the SATA port had caused the SATA port to be wrenched back a bit. I put the SATA cable onto the other socket and plugged it in. Windows recognised it immediately so either the SATA header was borked or I was using the wrong header.

Its formatting now at NTFS, would have chosen that myself and anyway twas the only option I had. :p

Currently at 18%. Dang 500Gb formatting is slow. :D
