Depends what type of game? Any graphics intensive one, no chance. Simply, USB can't match the speed & reliability of IDE nor SATA :(

if its usb1 it'll die, (but still get there), if its usb2, it'll just be like running off a 5400rpm drive (or similar) the max mb/s a is usually around 25-30 i tihnk when using a usb2 caddy, wheras your hard drives are more likely to go from 50-80

i run Red Alert 2 : Yuri's Revenge over usb2 (hell, i even run it over a shared network drive at times), because once the map is loaded it uses very little hard drive resources, so it plays fine

something like half life 2 where you keep getting 'loading...' screens would suffer a performance hit in loading screens

my guess is that ingame performance will have very little difference, but loading screens will take longer, and will vary from game to game

Football manager would be fine, it's not a game that loads constantly or intensively if you ask me. HL2 etc would be slow as even though they do a lot of the loading in segments (so you can go put the tea on at loading screens) they do have a habit of loading sounds etc during gameplay, it's just that HDD speeds are so fast that you simply don't notice.

also if you turn off your AV when loadind you'll see a decent increase in performance from USB.

yes definatly

disable antivirus and any spyware scanner you have installed when doing anything like loading a game or copying files (if you know they're ok)

whether you're using usb or not, you'll see an increase in performance!

this is why i no longer use av :o
