I'm looking for an external usb hdd for my Macbook but I'm not sure what's compatible with my laptop or which brand to go for. I don't have Firewire so it has to be usb. I'll be using it for extra storage space/backing-up. I'd like to get at least 500gb, maybe 1tb if it's not too expensive. Any suggestions?

Why did they remove FireWire from the MacBook? It's on the Mini ffs.

save the most cash just buy a raw drive and a caddy separately

...and then connect it to your Airport Extreme and bada bum bada bing instant cheap NAS and Time Capsule!

I'm thinking about getting a 'Toshiba 1TB USB 3.5" External Desktop Hard Drive' (sorry, can't find a link to a site that isn't an OC UK competitor). Should look good with the Macbook, the only problem is there's a customer review that says this drive is not mac compatible. I don't know enough about macs or hdds to know if that's even possible.

Have either of you had any experience with Tosh hard drives? Most people seem to recommend WD or Samsung.
