External usb not working in XP

I've got an 80GB Maxtor hd in an external media enclosure and I can't get it to work. I've set the hd as a slave I presume thats what its meant to be set to, it shows up in device manager, doesn't show up in my computer. And kind of shows up in disk management except as you can see its not how it should be.

Any help would be great.

u need to initalise it! right click on the where it says "Disk 1".

also, they should be set as master (if anything) for an external drive caddy

I had to set it as cable select for it to work on the tv :confused:

There was an option to set the hd as 'Mark partition as active' which I clicked to see what would happen, it now says active next to healty in disk management, was that a good thing to do?
