Extra fans question

Hi guys,

I've just recently purchased my new parts and completely built my system. At the minute its running with one stick of RAM because one is faulty and they are going back to be replaced. Anyways.... on to my question..

Currently on the MSI Z97 mini itx board there is only 2 fan connectors. 1 x SYS FAN and 1x CPU fan by the cpu block. At the minute I have a Cool Master Nepton 240MM AIO installed and that is connected to the SYS FAN by the spliter supplied with the kit. However the Cosair 250D comes with a 120mm fan installed in the front of the case which I can't connect because the CPU block is currently running off the CPU Fan connector. The case also has 2x 80mm fan mounts at the back of the case.

I want to definitely connect up the front fan as a intake but I'm lacking the connection points. Would I be correct in saying I can buy another fan splitter and connect the CPU block to the splitter and the case fan and both would run perfectly fine? Or can only the CPU fan be connected to that?

If so can anyone recommend a product to suit my needs? Preferably all black cables to match my others :)

Sorry for the noob question, its been a long long time since I built a PC.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Noctua NA-SRC10 3-Pin Low-Noise Adaptors, 3 pack £4.99
1 x BitFenix Alchemy Molex to 3pin x3 Fan adaptor 12V 20cm - Black £4.99
Total : £12.26 (includes shipping : £1.90).

I'd keep the existing connections as they are, and use the BitFenix molex splitter for the front case fan you want to connect (plus be able to connect 2 x 80mm fans later).

The Noctua low-noise adapters can be used if some of those fans end up being a bit loud. They are preferable to buying a 7v molex splitter, imo, as they run at 8.75v or so and will push more air.

Alternatively you can manually change the pins on the 12v molex to 7v.

I'd connect the pump to SYS and set to max, then run all the rest of the fans from a PWM splitter on the CPU header.

How much of a advantage would that be to me? Would it be set in the BIOs?

What is the difference between my normal splitter and a PWM spliiter?

Noob questions :)

Didn't think so, guessing PWM is something other than a standard fan like it has atm.

Yeah, 4-pin PWM, might not even fit the 3-pin connector on the normal splitters/fans, or even if it does, no guarantee it will run. Different with motherboards as the headers are designed for either 3-pins or 4-pin PWM's.

Would I see much benefit in having the 140mm intake and fitting 2 80mm exhausts?

Has to help a bit but how much I honestly don't know. If you try it let me know as the 250D is a case I have in mind for a future ITX build. :)

I saw the Noctua Redux 80mm's recommended by one of OcUK's staff (can't remember who exactly). But that's what I'd go for unless someone with the same case/different 80mm fans advised differently. The 1800 RPM (NON-PWM) version, as it might be silent enough at that speed, and can always be lowered a bit if not, with those Noctua adapters.

Cool i'll definitely look into it. Now the problem with the ram is sorted and the pc is up and running nicely it means I can get in there and tidy up all the wires and sort out what space I have. I don't think ill get the 200mm fan in there as the pipes from the rad come close to the screw holes and I think it would kink the pipe to much to risk it.
