my laptop came with windows XP home preinstalled.
It recently gave up the ghost so I am now going to use my 2nd PC however when I went to boot up windows gave me an error saying it wasn't genuine. This is correct as I installed the Hard Drive on my new PC to create and image on my new hard disk.
When I went to windows site for a new license I get an error when I type in the key from my laptop saying that the key cannot be used to purchase extra licences.
Now I presume I paid for the original license that's on my broken laptop. I don't see why I can't (with a suppliment payment) purchase a new license.
Why must I purchase the full product even though I have the xp disks at home.
I think there should be an option to pay the difference.
ie full version - oem version = amount to pay for upgrading.
That way I could legally transfer the license to a new PC as it is I've got a licence for a broken PC.
