Hi!

I am looking to upgrade the memory in my PC but I'm hearing/reading different things about it... I currently have 4GB ram, but would like to make it 8GB or 12GB, so I am wondering whats best really. Here is my setup:

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad-Crossfire PCI-E 750W Power Supply

Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P AMD 770 (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P13334GK)

Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD5001AALS)

Scythe Mugen 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775/LGA1366)

Can I just add another 2x2GB DDR3 1333Mhz ram and then I'll have 8GB? Someone told me I need to replace all my ram, another person said I need to run 3 sticks of ram... so I dont know, any advice please?

Ignore 3 sticks, your board only supports dual channel, so sticking 2 more sticks in would work. Its best to get the same model as other brands / speeds can cause compatibility issues.
Of course, do you need more than 4Gb?

Some people are obviously ill advised.. multiple of 3 apply if you have a triple channel memory such as the i7.. yours doesn't

You should be fine adding another 2 x gb.. Just make sure they are the same speed.. In your case PC310666.. If you can match the timings then great but don't worry to much.. You may just have to adjust the timings to the slowest latency, otherwise you might get unexpected system crashes.. If you install CL8 for example, then you will have to run you exiting modules at the speed and not the quoted CL7 which is slightly faster.. Hope that helps..

I can't see too many applications that would require 8gb or more.. I would invest in a speedy SSD for more a meaningfull and noticeable upgrade..

Thanks for the advice :) The main reason to upgrade to 8GB is because of all stuff I have to do for work and fun too. I'm quite often using all the ram with all the stuff I have open and running, so I figured a ram upgrade would be useful.
