Hey guys,

noob question, but I installed 4GB of RAM in my MBP but it is only registering the 3.5GB. I assume this is due to a 32bit set-up, is there a way of switching it to 64bit or am i being silly ?

Thanks for your help

If it has tiger then it may only recognise the 32-bit limit but if its leopard then that should recognise the full whack.

cheers for the replies. did some research too.. the new mbp have 2 slots.. if you ordered the stock 2gb mbp, it will be 2x1gb kits.. so if you want to upgrade the ram the only option is to get the 2x2gb kit.

Just as a side thought, i have 2gb of ram at the moment, does going to 4gb make that much difference on the mbp? i have the 17" 2.33ghz version.

Well I have just upgraded to 4gb yesterday (2.2ghz MBP). In normal usage proly youre not gonna notice much difference, but once i had vmware fusion running XP, photoshop, itunes, firefox, mail, adium etc all running at once thats where the 4gb really comes in useful as theres no slowdown anymore when switiching between apps.

So in summary, open up Activity monitor, if you see a lot of page outs and you freqeuntly find yourself with very little free ram then its gd to upgrade. Its pretty cheap anywy so if you need it go for it!
