I have some videos that I wish to extract audio from to MP3 format.

What is the best software to do this? I could just do it with whatyouhear but that would mean playing all the way through the videos

thanks. are there any free ones? I can do it with whatyouhear for free but id have to leave videos playing right the way through

Graph Edit and Virtialdub are free.

Just like a cassette deck or vinyl transfer you will have to plug your VHS into the PC, run a program like Soundforge or Audacity on record and then play the video in real time. It will save as a big WAV file which you will then have to edit down to seperate tracks if you so wish.

Alternately you could record your video onto a standalone DVD recorder which are very cheap now and make a DVD. With that DVD you can put it in your PC and use Audio Extraction tools to get the music off.

with virtualDub I get the message 'Couldnt locate decompressor for format 'divx' unknown'

The videos play fine in media player
