Hi,

I have a laptop with important files on it...

I need to extract data from the hdd, the laptop has 3 user accounts, of which I can only gain access to 1 acct. That 1 acct will not let me install any programs due to lack of admin rights...

So how can I extract the data?

I have used a prog to see the files I need but I cannot then move them onto a flash drive because that prog will not recognise my flash drive..

Which programs can help me?

Please help

Thanks

P.S. another issue is the laptop only recognises DVD disks and not CD, dont ask me why, but this is what I am finding...

Did you steal the laptop or buy it for £10 in a pub? ;) You can use this program to gain access to the other user accounts (hopefully one is an admin account):

You might be able to take the hard drive out and connect it up to another computer to try and gain access to files.

hey thanks for your response...

laptop is my sisters, she told me the password but i still cant login lol

she said her mate put this cd in and apparently that was supposed to clean the laptop up - whatever that means lol

now a lot of registry files are missing or are corrupt because when i installed recuva it didnt even install properly and i received an error log alerting me there were many registry errors...

so i took the hdd out of laptop, ran recuva and can see the files some of which are not even recoverable because it appears new programs have been installed since then - its a right mess, but a fun project becuz i am finding out what programs to use to help me resolve it and what I need to do hardware wise...i..e take out hdd from laptop, put in enclosure then attach to desktop ....

at her house when she entered the password for a user account , nothing happened it was like the lappy froze lol despite the password being correct...

anyway i told her to go through each file then eventually i can just wipe everything and do a fresh install :)

thanks for all your help peeps...

i may be back to update you on further madness but your suggestions are a godsend :)
