When installing an Extraction fan above a gas hob, is there a legally required minimum height or is it any height you wish as long as you dont keep banging your head?

Any height you like, but as you said put it high enough that you don't bang your head on the damn thing like I have to suffer with the one here :D

Well, the Building Regs don't seem to have exact guidance as far as I could find but my architect's pocket book has a recommended height of 1650mm from the floor to the underside of the hood.

I also think most hoods are 600mm deep anyway (standard worktop depth) so you can't avoid it.

Just had one fitted.

Im 6'2 and keep banging my head on the glass side.. may get the fitter to raise it a few inches if possible.

Any higher though and other half wont be able to reach the switches - LOL

Now thats what you call an extractor above my cookers at work -
