hi guys,

i wonder if any of you can shed any light..

a few days ago i put together a new build system, the 1st time ive had an overclocked pc..

i got an Extreme-Krypton overclocked bundle.. this one!

..for the record..

CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz @ 4.00GHz
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 (Socket 1366) DDR3
RAM: Corsair XMS3 (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel

..to this bundle i have added..

PSU: 750w cooler master GX
GFX: 2x Zotac 1gb Nvidia GTX 460's in SLi
MISC: Cooler master V8, 500gb sata, DVD-RW, Gigabyte clear case, win7 64pro.

i have the new system up and running and im happy with it's performance. i have the GTX 460's in SLi, and after abit of reading around, i learned how to overclock them. for these i have a stable overclock of 800mhz, and 1600/1950mhz for the memory and shader. overclock confirmed with GPU-Z.

with this configuration i ran 3D Mark Vantage, the benchmark was.. P28000, cpu- 45590, gfx- 24810.

the result of the 3D Mark Vantage benchmark is here, it also notes my system configuration.

now the question..

just after i had installed windows and was doing a re-start of the system, i got a strange message on the BIOS screen..something like this..

"the system has experieced boot failures because of overclocking or change of voltages. last settings may not coincide with current hardware state.
CPU clock 2936mhz"

im not sure it was exaltty 2936mhz, but it certainly didnt say 4000mhz!

also, note the 3D Mark Vantage result.. it says my processor clock is 2834mhz.

has my pre-configured overclock failed? how can i tell if my processor is indeed running at 4.0ghz as promised by the overclockers website?

thanks for reading..

cheers

I would say yes as I am having the same problem. I built mine on Saturday and it wouldn't boot at first. I eventually got the message you did. I rang Overclockers up and spoke to one of the technical guys who gave me some settings to change. I can't remember off hand what they were but the system did boot at the overclocked settings. However, I still have a bit of an issue and I need to give them another call. The tech guy told me to save the settings in the CMOS (F11 in BIOS with your board). If I try to boot from cold it won't boot at the overclocked settings. What I need to do is to wait for it to boot up with the warning message, go into the BIOS, load the saved config from CMOS and the system then boots at the 4.0Ghz.

I would give them a call mate and go through it with them.

I used this app at the weekend to monitor my CPU in Windows - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

What stoddy has stated is correct. You will need to enter the BIOS and re-load the CMOS overclocked profile. If you need any more help let me know.

thanks for your replies.

i dont have much experience with altering BIOS settings, are you able to talk me though what to change?

i really hope i wont have to change the bios every time i boot the pc (as above). i'll try what you suggest (when/if you tell me how!), if that does not work, i'll call the support team.

thanks again for your help and suggestions.

the overclock can get unloaded when you change power supplies

this is a problem we cant really do too much about because the end user is nearly always going to use a different psu to what we will use.

to reload the profile

enter the bios by tapping delete upon startup.

once in the bios press F12

there will be an OCUK profile.

hit enter on the profile.

the overclock will load.

press escape to get on the main bios page

press F10 to save and exit

then your overclock is reloaded :)

Have just had the same problem with i5 bundle and when reloading the OCUK profile (as above) it seemed to reset my boot order and I got "NTLDR missing" until I re-established the boot order to the ssd...didn't expect that
