im wondering how far i can actually push my pc.....i have a i7 980x that ive had at 4.71ghz and i have dominator 2000mhz ram that ive had at 1925mhz ish.my mobo is rampage 3 extreme...temps arent really an issue to a point as its all water cooled but what if any more could i get...ive seen others get 2100mhz out of this ram so my question is...what are the best settings for this set up? i feel that i could get the ram to the 2000mhz+ but i would lose some speed from the cpu...is that the case? dont get me wrong i dont need it to run at 6ghz+ but i just like to play and wondered thats all about how far it could go.....im sure there are some extreme overclockers in the forum that can give me some advice :D

I wouldn't bother overclocking the memory, makes hardly any difference performance wise but decreases the stability of the CPU and sucks up a few extra watts

I think you already found the sweet spot considering your CPU is at 4.71ghz

at 4.71ghz though the ram got to the 1925mhz...vcore for the chip at this point was 1.45 which is starting to get silly....i DO NOT want to pop a £600 chip. whats any body else with 980x getting from it?

On water 5.2 GHz 3Dmark05 stable.
4.8 GHz Vantage stable. Vcore 1.425 temps were not an issue. But you will need real cold if you want to go to (or close to) 6GHz. LN2 is the answer. :D

Handy if you have one of these it the back garden.

did you know that you can pour LN2 on your hand and its harmless unless your were to dip in a finger or a hand to a batch then you would lose it

i certainly wont be going down that route....i would feel like a mad scientist

Durr.. .. ..
Pouring it allows it to heat rapidly, and allows the temp to equivilate.
Put your finger in, and its still at the -196 degrees centigrade it needs to be to be liquid, which ofc will cause near instant freezing of cells in your finger, leading to frostbite.

Personally would not mess around with LN2, regardless. I have been benching for a number of years now and I have seen my fair share of accidents, usually because of stupidity and showing off. Basically think I am to boring to mess around with the stuff. For me it is a tool. one of many that I use for both my work and my hobby. :)

But yes when we have school tours and stuff like that we do some fun things with the LN2. Freeze roses and show how they shatter. Things like that. Certainly never stick a finger in or pour onto a bare hand.

There really is no need.
You won't see any real world difference, so I'm assuming this is for bragging rights? 4.71GHz is a pretty mental overclock.
