So after a while of looking at the motherboard bundle kits, thinking umming ahhrring, then either buying something else or looking at the bundles and trying to replicate them. by looking at the motherboard cpu and ram and buying them on my own, trying to save money and thus queing up for the silicon lottery.
I would just to add I am not rich.I am the average joe who upgrades once a year so the choices I make now have to last until my next upgrade, so I have to do a lot of researching and asking a lot of questions on this forum(for which its very good the community help a great deal) So I decided to treat myself.
So I bit the bullet and bought the :
OcUK Extreme Intel Core i7 4770K @ 4.6GHz+ Extreme Overclocked Bundle priced at some £782.36(including thermal paste)
So Here is my experience, i appologise for its lengh and possible waffle i have never done this before.
The ordering process
The ordering process is very good, although you really still need to research a few things before ordering.
Motherboard
For this part there is plenty of choice, a overwhelming choice, although I can see why there is so much choice.
Some people prefer to get the cheapest possible motherboard, some like the most exspensive they can get(After all the overclock is guaranteed on each of the boards, so i think its down to personal choice.), While some people prefer A peticular brand. within these brands are the top boards middle and cheap I think, so it caters for all.
I have always liked the Asus Rog branded boards but for one reason or another never managed to get one.
So based on questions asked some research, reading who is using what I decided to get the
Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI FORMULA.
Cooler
Now because of money restraints and the fact I already have a Corsair h100i.
I chose no cooler.(before selecting no,I had asked if my current cooler would be ok, since i wont be benching just running games i was fine)
Looking at the options I could see they had the choice of 2 air coolers, one with different fan colours and a few water cpu blocks. That was it.
I think guys your missing a trick here by not putting up a basic and a advanced full water cooling kit, Considering this is an Extream kit
How about adding Thermal paste in the mix also.
Also you could add a few more cpu water blocks to the list as has been stated.
And where is the new Ock Fathom all in one kit again I think you missed a trick here by not adding These.
Ram
Again I have to say not much choice here in both brands and speeds, but im assuming because of the guaranteed high over clock they prefer certain brands, speeds.
I have read that people have asked for there ram instead, so could these not be added too?.
I have to say its nice to see the addition of 16gb kits, this was worrying me a bit to be fair, since i wanted a 16gb kit.and glad to see they now accommodate people who want 16gb.
What was worrying for me at least is that Team group is flavour of ram atm, having had bad experience with this company before.
would be nice to see other ram brands in there in there, besides the 8gb Kingston kit and Team group.
Delivery
Once paid I was then waiting I thought 7 days for this to arrive, because of the speed binned cpus ect ect. so I was in no hurry whatsoever.
Wow I resieved my order in like 3 days I think it was. oustanding overclockers. i ahve to say i was also a bit woried about my overclock ect but i presume they had batches ready becuase of the weakly offer.
I have to say a big thumbs up for using dpd and the ability to track your parcel now is brilliant. if you havent used it yet, if your at hime waiting for your parcel track it, you can see via a map where he is how many parcels he is delvering before he gets to you ect ect. very nice to see.
The box arived, i felt sorry for the driver it was hammering down.
So i get the box in make a coffee then carefully open the box.
The wife by the side of me laughing at me saying" when is the rest fo the order comming" it is all here dear. i reply.
I pear inside and see a few boxes and a tube. the tube was a free OcUK XXL Mega Mat , thank you to 5UB for that.
I take the motherboard box out of the delivery box and wow this motherboard has some weight to it, lol. i then grab another cup of coffee while looking at the manual ect.
Another idea perhaps would be to include a sheet of paper or a certificate to include a engineers report of your overclock, highest reached temp volts ect ect. signed by them.
Then realising i wont be able to install it yet as i have to upgrade my sons and wifes computers with my hand me
So I hope a few of downs.
So I hope a few of you find my post useful(pics to follow)
