Hey,

Recently i have been experiencing slowdowns when i open certain applications such as media player. The hard drive activity LED lights up solidly and the system can take up to 3 mins to open my documents and other programs.

Today i bought a new Belkin N+ router, set it up from my other PC, but when i turned on this PC it took about 5 mins to boot and it hangs a freezes on everything i do :(

I have scanned with Malwarebytes anti-malware, Defragged the drive using Vopt, But neither has made a difference.

My spec is,

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Asus p5q
Intel Q9450 @ 3.2
4GB Kingston HyperX 1066 Ram
Nvidia 9800gt
Western Digital Caviar 500GB
BeQuiet! DPP 450W

Any ideas what might be wrong?
Thanks

Thanks, I tried the one you suggested but its not compatible with windows 7

Also found one on the WD website, burned to disc but when i tried it, it did not recognise my drive and said there was no drive detected

Just ran a memory test which found no errorsl, then booted into safe mode which ran fine with the hard drive light only flickering every few seconds, so im guessing it's a driver or program issue.

Ok, uninstalled anti-virus and powerISO, neither had any effect.

Unplugged the network cable and restarted, it felt a little more responsive but still very slow and the hard drive light still lit solidly.

Could this be the cause?
