I'm afraid to say I've pretty much ignored the watercooling part for two reasons 1) it would be very hard to fit into a small case anyway and 2) I don't know enough about it to recommend a good option so I've left space in the budget. I've only added one graphics card at the moment as it should be easily capable but if you require Crossfire then the motherboard supports it. Final point to note is that you may need to check the clearance on the motherboard for the CPU cooler as it is quite large.

£188 for a new rig?

Refer to my post in:Amiga 600+

However, assuming you meant £1800 :)...i doubt you'd really need to get close to spending that,as there's a point where performance for price ratio gets stupid. Off the top of my head:

Asus Maximus Extreme (think this is an X38 board): ~£170?
Two HD3870X2's: ~£550

...ok already i can see i was talking crap about prices, haha, only advice i could give is wait for the new quad cores coming out in March, which start at around £220+ (45nm).

semi-pro, the lad has big budget to spend, get him some Raptors on that spec, which actually sound like you have Raptors inside your case, mucnhing on a carcus :D

Also, invest in an off-shore account so future PC purchases are hidden from enem...wife :p

If OcUK were still doing the Silentmaxx enclosures I probably would have considered it but Raptors aren't too great for a quiet PC otherwise. However this Icy Dock internal caddy sounds like it might be an adequate substitute.

Ahh, might look into that as even with all my case fans on high, the noisiest part of the dam system is the Raptor, it clicks endlessly like a hamster chewing a brick, going to unplug the HDD Audio i reckon lol. Also every now and again it does that big click, like it's stopped, the same as you get when you shutdown your PC, at random.

Last time i had a HDD sound like this was in my P120 lol.

ATI's latest Catalysts still do not fully support X2's in crossfire, so it would be a right waste of money right at this moment!!
Definitely worth adding one when drivers mature.

If he has 1800 quid to spend screw waiting for the new low multiplier crippled quad cores and go for a QX9650 multi unlocked quad, 4.5Ghz on air anyone? :)

I put a raptor-X in a shuttle I have sat on my desk and it drove me crazy! Would definately not recommend them if you want a Quiet PC, better off getting a couple of 7200.11's in raid 0

semi-pro recommended one of those internal SATA caddies, looks like it might solve my raptor nosie problem IF it'll fit in my case.

Unlocked multiplier for easy street hehe.

7200.11 in raid 0 still wouldn’t beat a raptors access time, for gaming a single raptor is still king :)
A pair of 150 raptors in a silent enclosure would be the ultimate solution.

I know what you are saying, but having used a raptor I really didnt see any improvement over my current raid 0, and if noise is a concern I just couldnt recommend them.

I havent tried silent enclosures so I cannot comment on how well they silence them but could be a good solution if you need ultimate performance and quiet

Apparently they cool the HDD nice, but it would kinda make one of my front case fans redundant. They fit 3 HDD's, but only take up the space of two bays.

At the moment i got a 20gb partition on the Raptor for Vista (though this is C:\, which every dam program tries to save to, annoying), then remainder for quick access programs. I then have a standard 7200 Seagate Baracuda to store Music, films and crap. Sooner or later though i'm going to smash the thing for soem peace and quiet.
