Extreme Watercooling

No idea if anybody has tried this before (expect so) but how about submerging your radiator under cold water in a container with a cold water mains supply flowing in and out? (kitchen sink springs to mind for a test)
In theory cold water should be a better cooler then air even with push/pull fans.
I might give it a try and see what temps are like :D ( cold water mains temp is 13oC atm)
Main advantage would be less fans so cheaper to run as long as your not on a water meter and cooler temps?
Disadvantages, many !! but fun to try it

I've seen setups that use a bucket full of iced water and the radiator/s is/are just chunked in the bucket. You have to be careful to keep the water circulating in the system above 0°C though as if it freezes you'll be in trouble. Otherwise if you have fans that can operate underwater it would be even better. I guess if you provide very cold air to the radiator (not in Britain though), you will get better temperature than submerging the radiator in cold water.
P.S. Not being on water meter is not an excuse for wasting so much water. :D

with the rad full of hot water it wont freeze , not sure how much water would be needed for the flow to keep it cooler , might not be much , could always have it filling your bath for you lol

the Mrs will be out at the weekend so will test in the sink then :)

i got my rad hanging out the window atm and get some nice colder temps at night in uk and the hot air is straight out the window so cooler in room as well but looking for ways to get colder and quieter :)

Ah yes..CONDENSATION but hey as my loop is running 10oC above ambient atm i only want to lower it to a couple below ambient so fingers crossed this wont be a problem and will use less water

There were a few chillers for sale awhile ago in the members market - I've also seen them on a popular auction site ;)

Insulate the board and you're good for 4c water, depending on model (cant remember but i think up to 1500w worth of cooling potential) Mine was good for 790w worth of cooling and easily sat at whatever temp you slapped on the dial.

My idea on extreme watercooling was using a cooling bath, but using dry ice and ethanol ;) Copper coiled tubing that you can raise in and out the bath to increase/decrease the cooling as required, mix your fluid with something to lower the freezing point (might need 2 pumps as the liquid will be thicker than water)

That was my plan ^ just a bit of fun using old hardware/pumps etc, easier method is just a mach2 or something :D
