So, originally I had my M4 128GB plugged into sata3_m1 and m2. I did this because I didn't realise there was a difference and my GPU obscures the sata3_1 and sata3_2.

Now, this didn't work. The SSD is only picked up in 1/2 not m1/m2. I was under the impression this board has 4 sata3 slots but the bios only shows 1/2 and m1/m2 don't appear to work. Nothing is plugged into the eSATA at the I/O either.

Is there only actually two sata3? What are the other two physical sockets for? I also changed the bios settings to ACHI but left the bootable marval thing to off. This will be my boot drive, what should I do? The Bios tells me to use sata2 to boot which is silly.

Also, even with it now attached properly the SSD doesn't show up in my computer.

The board has two Sata 3.0 with an intel controller and x2 Sata 3.0 ports with a marvell controller (hence the m1/m2). I think the marvell controller is disabled by default so you'll need to enable it from UEFI before you can use it.

I see. I'll look into it tomorrow. Is the Marvell controller better than Intel's? I get a bit lost by all this SSD controller stuff.

Should my SSD show up in my computer straight out the box or do I need to format it?

Intel SATA 3 is much better than Marvell SATA 3.

All drives need formatting, and a drive letter allocating, before they appear in My Computer.

Alright, cheers. I've never used more than one drive before and the last time I used a brand new drive was like five years ago.

One last question, if I install windows/drivers on my SSD and don't format my old HDD I wont have driver conflict issues right?

I did exactly the same. But I disconnected the HDD to be safe :)
Connected it later after installing win7 to the SSD and could use both with out any conflicts. No need to format.
I kept the OS on my HDD as a secondary boot any way so when I want to boot from my HDD I just changed the boot order(not sure if it is the same in all mobos)

If I boot from my HDD atm it goes ******* insane as there's no drivers for my current rig, only for my old one.
